Why private security has become South Africa’s first responder

In a country with over half a million active private security officers – more than double the number of SAPS members – private security is no longer a supplement to policing. It is the primary security infrastructure for millions of South Africans.

Armed response companies arrive faster. Community patrols prevent crime before it happens. Private investigations yield results. The government should be incentivising this industry, not restricting it.
